“You write what you read.”
– Anonymous
While we were at the CHAP (Christian Homeschool Association of Pennsylvania) convention this weekend, one of the most frequent questions we received was “what writing curriculum did you use in your schooling that turned all of you into novelists?” We tried to explain that no writing curriculum, however good, could possibly turn anyone into a novelist. Textbooks will teach you grammar and sentence structure, the technical part of writing, but nothing more. Only constant reading of great books and the best authors will enable you to learn the creative side of writing. This quote, which I spied written on the back of a t-shirt, sums up how to become a novelist.
